From A Window on Avenue C

quiet,
children's voices
chatter in the background
a little afternoon music, muted

puddles still on the walkway
now dappled with sun
light breaks from between
buildings, laying a band
of bright across the path

trees, leaves ripple
in a small wind
squirrels cavort and gavotte
any afternoon
from this window

blessed, blessed, blessed

When the dog bites,
When the bee stings,
When I'm feeling sad,
I simply remember my favorite things...
