Brother Courage

Talked to Thankful for a long time (early) this morning. Her brother was one amazing, loving critter. Would be hard to even guess how many lives he changed for the better. He worked tirelessly for Gay Rights, Human Rights, for the whole of his life. I doubt the effects of such a wave of love and energy will ever end in this world. She's lucky to have had him in her life.

That said, he was lucky to have her. As are we all. Full Snuggle Thankful. The most loving woman I've ever known.

prequinox, before the first girl
waiting
making lists of wants, needs
seeds for the garden
waiting
with a little dreaming on the side
need a spring cleaning
a bonfire
a ceremony for the uninitiated
a tonic

feeling there, just
under the rib
something
something
beats a little harder
a little faster
just there
beneath the pulse
something
something
moving

is it you?

One of his requests is to have this played at the visitation.
True Colors
Cyndi Lauper
You with the sad eyes
don't be discouraged
oh I realize
it's hard to take courage
in a world full of people
you can lose sight of it all
and the darkness inside you
can make you feel so small
But I see your true colors
shining through
I see your true colors
and that's why I love you
so don't be afraid to let them show
your true colors
true colors are beautiful
like a rainbow
Show me a smile then
don't be unhappy, can't remember
when I last saw you laughing
if this world makes you crazy
and you've taken all you can bear
you call me up
because you know I'll be there
I can't remember when I last saw you laugh.
And I'll see your true colors
shining through
I see your true colors
and that's why I love you
so don't be afraid to let them show
your true colors,
true colors are beautiful
like a rainbow

puddle is walking around doing that nesting thing that is an 18 hour warning but we had a foot more of heavy snow that is hard to move and I finally got through the 5 foot drifts to the silage and still have my feeding to do as well as helping Barbara if she needs it, so I may not be back for a few hours.

Several inches, then ice, and it's due to go on for another day or so. All the melting progress of the past week wiped out. And yet it is heartbreakingly gorgeous. What can I say? The picture above is from Norway. . . .

Tanner update

Midnight Feb 22/23

Tanner has decided that he needs to make up for the lack of real baths this past year. He has been taking 2 or 3 baths a day, and would live in the tub if I would let him!

We experimented with taking out his feeding tube. It was out for a few days, but I became exhausted with trying to get the 30 oz of fluid in him everyday. He is not a big drinker. So, the tube is back in and hopefully he'll develop a desire to drink...a lot! His eating has gotten a lot better. His favorite food of the week is PIZZA. He'll eat a couple slices a day. I have to make sure there's always pizza in the fridge. He also likes peanut m&ms!

As I type, Tanner is sitting at the desk next to me, drawer open, measuring tape out, measuring the drawer. Oh, now he's playing with thread. Now it's the pins and the pin cushion. Now, back to the thread. He's building a tower out of the spools. This is one cute boy.

This is our sleep schedule, fun.

until later, Megan

Made It Through Another Winter

Made It Through Another Winter

yes, when dawn breaks the slot and light no longer moves forward but then swings the pendulum back the cold earth warms, not that we notice, so we mark the wall

or stand the massive stones, and dance by the fire

soon we do notice and by the time our stone and the source, swing evenly to the arc of the stars the birds have noticed, and gather nests

but if in luck we hear them as the snow melts

our blood and water run again as the planet spins its circle and paths cross equinox past

During the rapid spring thaw of 1952, 1300 South Street in Salt Lake City became a river of water with dirt and sandbag boundaries. (Photo courtesy of National Weather Service.)

I remember this one. My Dad's business was on 13th South. That river ran down the street for two weeks. We have family movies of us all on the dirt bank in front of Commercial Equipment (they built Peterbilts). They even had time to build bridges at intervals across it. When I waded it it, it was up to my 11-year-old chest.

The one I have going right now, in front of the house is a good bit earlier, and colder. Ice flows have been pushed into the bridge culverts, and over the bridge. The water is running over the bridge. More rain expected. Fun, I say, fun!!

Genealogy run amuk -- an email from my co-Mother-in-Law. . . .

Who is Jack Schitt?

For some time many of us have wondered just who is Jack Schitt? We find
ourselves at a loss when someone says, 'You don't know Jack Schitt!'
Well, thanks to my genealogy efforts, you can now respond in an intellectual
way.

Jack Schitt is the only son of Awe Schitt. Awe Schitt, the fertilizer
magnate, married O. Schitt, the owner of Needeep N. Schitt, Inc. They
had one son, Jack.
In turn, Jack Schitt married Noe Schitt. The deeply religious couple
produced six children: Holie Schitt, Giva Schitt, Fulla Schitt, Bull
Schitt, and the twins Deep Schitt and Dip Schitt.
Against her parents' objections, Deep Schitt married Dumb Schitt, a
high school dropout. After being married 15 years, Jack and Noe Schitt
divorced.
Noe Schitt later married Ted Sherlock, and because her kids were living
with them, she wanted to keep her previous name. She was then known as
Noe Schitt Sherlock.
Meanwhile, Dip Schitt married Loda Schitt, and they produced a son with
a rather nervous disposition named Chicken Schitt. Two of the other six
children, Fulla Schitt and Giva Schitt, were inseparable throughout
childhood and subsequently married the Happens brothers in a dual
ceremony.

The wedding announcement in the newspaper announced the Schitt-Happens
nuptials. The Schitt-Happens children were Dawg, Byrd, and Horse.
Bull Schitt, the prodigal son, left home to tour the world. He recently
returned from Italy with his new Italian bride, Pisa Schitt.

Now when someone says, 'You don't know Jack Schitt,' you can correct
them.

Sincerely,
Crock O. Schitt

Beautiful day! Clear blue, sunshine, and warm (nearly fifty degrees). Which has made my porch, terrace, driveway, and road all the way up to the mailbox, sheer, gorgeous glare ice. May be weeks before I can step out, lol! Am more housebound than I was during the cold! And worse: I need water! Out to set the bucket under the drips. . . .

I

Because I do not hope to turn again
Because I do not hope
Because I do not hope to turn
Desiring this man's gift and that man's scope
I no longer strive to strive towards such things
(Why should the aged eagle stretch its wings?)
Why should I mourn
The vanished power of the usual reign?

Because I do not hope to know again
The infirm glory of the positive hour
Because I do not think
Because I know I shall not know
The one veritable transitory power
Because I cannot drink
There, where trees flower, and springs flow, for there is nothing again

Because I know that time is always time
And place is always and only place
And what is actual is actual only for one time
And only for one place
I rejoice that things are as they are and
I renounce the blessed face
And renounce the voice
Because I cannot hope to turn again
Consequently I rejoice, having to construct something
Upon which to rejoice

And pray to God to have mercy upon us
And pray that I may forget
These matters that with myself I too much discuss
Too much explain
Because I do not hope to turn again
Let these words answer
For what is done, not to be done again
May the judgement not be too heavy upon us

Because these wings are no longer wings to fly
But merely vans to beat the air
The air which is now thoroughly small and dry
Smaller and dryer than the will
Teach us to care and not to care
Teach us to sit still.

Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death
Pray for us now and at the hour of our death.
