We, three kings, of

“We have seen his star in the east…” - Matthew 2:2

The sudden appearance of a new and brilliant star set the kings of the East on one of the Bible’s better-known journeys. Through the centuries, paintings have shown as many as eight kings. Some debate whether the magi were actual kings or a group of scholars, astronomers and priests. The Western tradition of three kings most likely arose from the three gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh that they brought to “the newborn King.” James C. Christensen provides us with a gift to treasure the whole year through. In his original painting, the star and the three gifts of the kings are gold leaf. For both the print and canvas editions, we were able to recreate this radiant effect, in fact, the canvas is hand-crafted with 22-karat gold leaf.

Each new Christensen offering this year has sold out at the Publisher, and we’re certain this will follow. So be sure to contact your local Greenwich Workshop dealer before this gift disappears. [click title]

Potluck Communion

shared food is sacred

breaking bread
sanctum sanctorum

rain falls on the just
and the unjust
the earth
brings forth grain
(to pass as a covered dish)

communion version of an old family

blessing to tongue and heart

100 year old Granny Smith, snapped at base

was there before
the big bang.

(smashed atoms,
cosmic dust)

echoes reverberating
where? suns
shaped by sound (who speaks?)

Then there was Time
time Mary should be delivered

for unto us, into swirling dust
God's hand had shaped
that needed,
needs guidance.

Give gifts!
sing songs
join in the throngs

Christ is come.

I am still trying to get my head around all the things that happened today.

The big event was Ally's central line. They wanted to take it out today...we knew this was a possibility. Their first thought was to fast her for 6 hours and do surgery. Then, they saw how much it had already come out and just had a surgeon come down. He tilted the bed way back so Ally's head was lower than her feet, put his hand on her chest and pulled it out. Wow! It came out really fast and easy. (Sadly, we were not able to keep the tubies) This is good news because Ally can now take her first real bath (without a chair, or saran wrap) and splash as much as she wants. It is also good because having it in was always a huge risk for infection. Having it out is bad because Ally still needs frequent blood draws, so they will now need to stick her with a needle. Having it out also makes us lose Visiting Nurse privileges :-(

Speaking of sticking Ally with a needle, they couldn't get blood out of the central line today anyway, so they had to stick her with a needle. They put some numbing cream on her and she didn't even cry when they poked her!

The doctor said Ally looked GREAT in regards to her dry skin and lips. There is another patient a couple steps ahead of Ally going through similar treatment and that little boy's skin is not doing as well as Ally's.

We got a message with Ally's counts. They continue to go up! Her ANC is about 1500...if you remember, she needed a score of 500 for 3 days to get out of Boston. :-)

Ally keeps looking for her missing tubies.

Friday, December 12. Full Moon, 11:37 a.m

The Long Night Moon or The Cold Moon

This Full Moon is closest to Earth of any Full Moon in 2008. At 5 p.m. EST, the distance, center to center, is about 356,566 km (about 221,560 miles). The nearness of the Moon at this time may produce exceptionally large high tides (perigean tides).

Superabimus olim

In corde me
Volo et sic
Ut superabimus olim

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

If You Forget Me

I want you to know
one thing.

You know how this is:
if I look
at the crystal moon, at the red branch
of the slow autumn at my window,
if I touch
near the fire
the impalpable ash
or the wrinkled body of the log,
everything carries me to you,
as if everything that exists,
aromas, light, metals,
were little boats
that sail
toward those isles of yours that wait for me.

Well, now,
if little by little you stop loving me
I shall stop loving you little by little.

If suddenly
you forget me
do not look for me,
for I shall already have forgotten you.

If you think it long and mad,
the wind of banners
that passes through my life,
and you decide
to leave me at the shore
of the heart where I have roots,
that on that day,
at that hour,
I shall lift my arms
and my roots will set off
to seek another land.

if each day,
each hour,
you feel that you are destined for me
with implacable sweetness,
if each day a flower
climbs up to your lips to seek me,
ah my love, ah my own,
in me all that fire is repeated,
in me nothing is extinguished or forgotten,
my love feeds on your love, beloved,
and as long as you live it will be in your arms
without leaving mine.
