Today in Mountains

I want to wander
in the wildness
of my day
like some wood
nymph, Pan's offspring,
with no company
of clock, phone, computer,
no to-do list
of trivial activities
done for the sake
of done, oblivious
to my culture
of buy and get
walking softly
through woods
my feet touching
like roots nourished
by some sacred
something in dirt
and duff, grinning
at pine needle shadows
and tracks of deer,
bear, and birds,
growing my own
winter pelt to
help me sleep warm.
