kudzu blossom

I just want to say that kudzu is unfairly maligned. It doesn't actually kill the vegetation on which it climbs and it doesn't cause any more erosion than the trees. In fact, to the extent that the shade of trees keeps other plants from growing and securing the ground with their roots, trees actually promote erosion.
I think the reason people don't like kudzu is the same reason they don't like purple loose-strife. The plants die off in winter and their detritus is unsightly. Somehow, people don't like dead vines hanging in trees. But then, these same people hate spanish moss because it's grey color makes it look dead to them.

kudzu looked like a linesman's worst nightmare to me where it had climbed up on the poles and wires

and trekking the back woods looked like it might be good training for a trans-amazonian journey

purple loose-strife on steroids
