Svmer is icumen in,
Lhude sing, cuccu!
Groweþ sed and bloweþ med
and springeþ þe wude nu.
Sing cuccu!
Awe bleteþ after lomb,
lhouþ after calue cu,
Bulluc sterteþ, bucke uerteþ,
Murie sing cuccu!
Cuccu, cuccu,
Wel singes þu cuccu.
ne swilk þu nauer nu!

Sing cuccu nu, sing cuccu!
Sing cuccu, Sing cuccu nu!

(MUSIC here)

Or, slightly easier:

Sumer is icumen in lhude sing cucu;
Groweth sed and bloweth med
And springth the wodenu
sing cucu.

Awe bleteth after lomb.
L'houth after calve cu;
Bulloc sterteth bucke ver-teth,
Murie sing Cucu.
Wel singes thu Cucu

Ne swik thu naver nu.

circa 1300?

All this was started by my looking at my weather report this morning, and thinking Winter is icumin in ~~

Winter is icumin in
Lhude sing Goddamn,
Raineth drop and staineth slop,
And how the wind doth ramm!
Sing; Goddamn.
Skiddeth bus and sloppeth us,
An ague hath my ham
Damn you, Sing, Goddamn.
Goddamn, Goddamn, 'tis why I am,
So 'gainst the winter's balm.
Sing goddamn, damn, sing goddamn,
Sing goddamn, sing goddamn, DAMM

-Ezra Pound (1915)

Puddle (who has so many names!)--Good take on Pound and just the way I feel about winter.

You must be feeling better now that the winds of change seem to be beginning to blow.

Love visiting your blog and thought I'd tell you so.

What is the BBB? I know it's a Dean blog but can't figger out for the life of me what all those Bs stand for.

Maura, hey! Good to see you! Hope your Dad's doing good. I think about you more since Edwin's been in Ireland. All the lovely stories about your family (esp. your uncle making dinner for you that rainy night).

Stay well!

Mary, glad you spoke up. Knew you'd been around, your IP, which is pretty disdinctive, lol, shows up every so often.

And thank you. I'm usually having fun with it.

BBB ~~ we have a member of BFA (Blog for America) who made life so miserable for so many, that after tons of people left, one of our more web savy remaining member started a "shadow blog" so there was a place we could come when it was getting a little too deep "over there" ~~ I got tired of calling it "the other blog" or "over there" and just dubbed it the Big Bad Blog. Didn't take that long for it to get shortened. . . .

The joy of it has been that the "no-smoking section" has really taken on a life of its own. Including spawning a number of baby blogs like this one. We've already had several days/threads where we've outnumbered the BBB. Which may actually tell you more about the damage Chthulu's doing than anything else. But hey. . . .

The names: grin ~~ just thought I'd write them all out for once. Early, I actually sent Edwin an email with the story of my name, and he said he nearly fell off the chair he was laughing so hard. . . .

Where are you headed this year in the name of the search for sun?

Sunny Florida or more specifically Grassy Key which is just about smack dab in the middle of the Keys. Will be glad to get this semester over with although in many ways it's been fun.

Fun enough so that I'm not yet officially planning to retire.

I keep remembering my father who retired four times, maybe five. Why not just stay working, I figure, if I'm going to have to find another job just to keep boredom at bay.
