traffic in baghdad
Oh! Just talked with Edwin in Dublin! Wide awake and perky, lol! A wonderful story he told me of the trip to the airport last night. He'd ordered "a black car" (taxi-by-phone) which came early, and the driver called and said, the traffic is terrific, so if you are ready maybe we should leave early. They did. Edwin said the entire ends of the car were covered with Marine decals and Semper Fi stickers. Inside in the front where he sat, also: cards, hangydownies, pins, etc.
Driver proceeded through some of the worst traffic Edwin's ever seen, changing lanes three at a time, edges of the road, and 70/80 mph in any clear spaces. They made it to the airport in a half hour. As he was heading into the airport, it occurred to him that his most excellent driver had learned his breathtaking skills in, say, Baghdad. . . .
Having seen my brother drive after a year in Saigon, I think it likely.
