Someday we'll find it, The Rainbow Connection, The lovers, the dreamers, and me. -- Kermit The Frog
Shifting gears: I used to think civil unions were soficient. But, now I have come to the conclusion that *all* couples have the right to have a legally recognized marriage. That doesn't cramp any religion's style; they don't *have* to marry anyone. It seems to me that the Catholic Church used to refuse to marry a couple if the woman was disabled, because this would in all likelihood interfere with her childbearing. And, after all, we all know the *only* reason for marriage is childbearing. Some churches, like the United Church of Christ and some Quaker meetings would continue welcoming and performing samesex marriages, others would not be obliged to do so. But, *all* couples would have the chance and the right to enter into civil, state-recognized marriage. That just only seems right and fair.
Water gathering
most days I wait
through blue and sun
till dusk
or even later
and the rose has faded
to lavender, to gray
some days, the sleet
has started
and the leaves underfoot
are slick with ice
somehow I'm never sorry
and never learn
one night I waited
till the stars were out
dropped the bucket into
sound, only felt the weight
of it filling
and the night full of stars
and the river full of stars
and the bucket full of stars
come morning, the coffee
is also full of stars
