Threshing Crew

The wash basin on the porch

as close as the men get to the parlor

or dining room

green lawn shade for furniture

soft enough for a quick nap for the young man

tasked with forking straw or shoveling out the wagon to bin

but quick alert to the smell of the roasted chicken

and fresh baked peach pie

meal served on the picnic table

for the dirt, clean and honest though it may be

must be left to the outdoors

or a dip in the cow tank

at dusk
