The event was billed as "nonpolitical," and Beck steered clear of the partisan commentary that has made him a hero to many conservatives and a nemesis to many on the left. But political overtones were unmistakable, and the rally drew a large crowd - including many who said they were new to activism - that was energized and motivated to act.

How "political" is defined is important. Does it mean "the interests of the polis" (the people) or does it refer to power over people -- domination as opposed to people power or self-rule. Beck is clearly interested in exercising power over people and giving them noting but the sense of being better than someone else in return. People who have little or no sense of self (aren't self-directed or self-aware) are easily satisfied by the belief that they are better than someone else. It may even strike them as a radical notion.
