I first heard about him, oh, six or seven years ago. I attended an Innovative Thinking seminar in Scottsdale, which is a 2 day lecture from ITers - and Dale was one of them. We had pretty close seats, and I loved his shoes with all of the paint on them.
A few years ago, Dale had his works displayed at the Garfield Park Conservatory, amid the trees, plants and flowers. Check it out.
If you want awesome, click the main photo for *big*. . . .
I've loved him since I started doing stained glass in the mid 80's. When you start getting involved with the glass world, he's one of the first you run into. And of course he's a Virgo. . . .
Yup, this is the first ever Chihuly work I saw (twas in Wikipedia). Then while making an article about him and the Italian Maestro L. Tagliapietra, I learned about his cool Seaforms; perhaps the Wow factor really belongs to his ceiling sculptures.
Water gathering
most days I wait
through blue and sun
till dusk
or even later
and the rose has faded
to lavender, to gray
some days, the sleet
has started
and the leaves underfoot
are slick with ice
somehow I'm never sorry
and never learn
one night I waited
till the stars were out
dropped the bucket into
sound, only felt the weight
of it filling
and the night full of stars
and the river full of stars
and the bucket full of stars
come morning, the coffee
is also full of stars

I suspect that there are few people of any note that Denise has not been to a seminar or convention or dinner with!
And I totally agree on Chihuly!
I wish I could have seen his shoes!!
