Tanner with mom and dad a little more than a week prior to diagnosis, February 5, 2006.
March 01, 2007 at 04:46 PM MST Tanner did really well at his hearing appointment today. I asked exactly how his loss would be classified. Jason, Tanner's audiologist, said it's a "mid-high frequency, moderate-moderately severe loss" and he really needs to wear his hearing aids all day every day or before long everything he says will sound like he's saying it through a mouthful of mashed potatoes! So, I'm re-committing to getting Tanner used to wearing them. I have some of the same feelings I did back when I first heard that he could lose some hearing. It's like someone has kicked me in the gut. It makes me sick and sad that Tanner has permanent effects that he'll have to deal with forever. It just doesn't seem fair. And, you know what? It's not fair. But, as my dad always used to tell us: "Things in this life aren't always fair." I hated that as a kid, and I hate it now. But, it's reality, and I'm trying to have a good attitude so I can pass it on to Tanner.
As for the labs, they went as well as I could have hoped for. Once we got in the room Tanner was visibly scared, and once we sat down in the chair he started crying, and cried until Patrick (the lab tech)was done, but he only had to stick him once. They used his hand because according to the tech, the ones higher in his arm were pretty small. He was really nice and said he'd see us next time. Afterwards we took a roll of quarters and headed to the vending machine with all 3 boys. After that we threw pennies in the fountain. When we got to the car, I asked Tanner how it was. He said "fun." Later he talked about it hurting. But, it was survivable. I don't want to do it all again in a month, but, oh well.
The latest AFP is 4.2. Still normal!!!! All his other labs looked good too.
