Tears Are In Order
Tears Are In Order
The Army Dress was out of place
at the checkout at Wal-Mart (although not)
and stripes and rows of medals
proof she had been there and done that
as our sad eyes met, for everytown's son
she had brought home from the war was met with flags
on every corner
and the football field to be named in his memory
was frozen tundra that built the wind
to freeze the tears not let out at attention
but there at the checkout, long johns on the belt
ready for the solemn obligation of motionless tribute
a glistening of the eye, just at the corner
together acknowledging the loss
