J, there is a story about this song...was written in the Civil War. A man found his own son after hearing him moaning all night, dead. They were on opposite sides of the conflict. The lad was a music student. I believe this was his composition. He was allowed to bury him, but couldn't use the full bugle detail, but a single bugle....was one of the most tragic things I've ever read...
