Tanner update from his Mom

December 21, 2006 at 10:47 AM MST This is another one of those updates where I say how adorable Tanner is! I just can't help it. He is doing so well. The other day he ate 1/2 of a donut. A full half! I don't think he has EVER done that in his 2 1/2 years. His occupation therapist, who works with him on eating, says that Tanner has made the biggest improvement in the smallest amount of time that he has ever seen! Wow! We have cut back his NG feeds to just at night. He hates it. He'll either say "no hook, no hook" or "no food, no food." Hopefully in the coming months he will start eating enough that we won't have to do that anymore. Although the NG is great for his medicine. I don't know what we'd do without it.
Tanner's walking has really improved. He was a bit wobbly for a while, then had a few days where he said his legs hurt, and he wouldn't walk. But, the last few days I have noticed a real improvement.
Another thing...His talking has doubled, it seems. He is talking so much, and getting his point across so well. Just a couple months ago he would only say one or two words at a time, now he'll combine 4 or 5. He is also so polite. We used to get balloons all the time, but haven't had any for a while. So, yesterday we (me and my mom) got him a couple balloons. He says "thank you" so cute. Then, last night I took Austin out Christmas shopping and told Tanner we'd bring a balloon home for him. When I got home he exclaimed "more balloon, thank you mom, thank you mom, thank you mom." He just kept saying thank you over and over. Then a little while later, he started saying it again! I just adore that boy. All of my boys!!
Austin is still so good with Tanner. He'll come get him off the bed in the morning, and do just about anything for him. Sometimes Tanner won't do something I ask, like taking medicine or something, so I'll have Austin ask him. Tanner will do anything if Austin asks! Noah and Tanner definitely have more of a sibling rivalry kind of relationship. Tanner teases Noah constantly, and Noah tries to put up with it, but they fight quite often! I guess it's a good sign that Tanner's doing better if his brother thinks he can treat him like "normal."

On another note, I woke up sick this morning. Please pray that I can get over it quickly and Tanner won't get sick.

I'll leave the frustrating medical issues for another day, I like this post the way it is!
Love, Megan
