Torture? If so, one finds torture going on in the most unlikely of places.

Shelters give long-haired cats whose coats are matted beyond repair "lion cuts" all the time.

Would you prefer leaving the hair matted, endangering the cat's health or diminishing its chances of being adopted?

Long hair is unnatural in cats. Humans bred it into existence. If humans were to vanish, long-hairs would disappear within a couple of generations. Without human intervention, they would succumb to abcesses, overheating and other problems.

It's inhumane to hold up an animal this miserable as a figure of fun.

But if you actually think this is "torture," you need to read up on the sort of things people do to animals.
